I’ve been a fan of Talking Heads and David Byrne since high school. By the time I got to college, the Talking Heads had peaked with their album Speaking In Tongues — which, of course, had the hit “Burning Down the House.” I loved that album and played it often, and it was a gateway album that motivated me to check out their earlier work, and to buy some of the solo stuff Byrne had done (at that point, it was music for “The Catherine Wheel,” My Life in the Bush of Ghosts, and Music for the Knee Plays). It was all very heady stuff, some of it I loved, some of it was, quite frankly, difficult to connect to. Nevertheless, I considered myself a fan of his work. Alas, I never got to see the Talking Heads play live, but a couple of months ago Popdose sent me to see David Byrne at Davies Symphony Hall in San Francisco. I went by myself (the publicist only sent one ticket), and it was really a wonderful concert. I wrote up a review, Popdose published it, and I thought that was pretty much it.
Imagine my surpise when I saw my review on David Byrne’s website. Yeah, the review has been included with a ton of other press clippings, but because I’ve really admired what Bryne has done through the years, this, to me, is a big deal.
And to add to the fun, I found out through his blog that Byrne is a big proponent of bicycling. A few You Tube searches, and I found this video report that was done to spotlight some new bike racks he’s designed. From big suites to bike racks … it all seems to make sense.

December 2, 2008 at 10:44 amI think that's TOTALLY cool that your review ended up on his website! What higher praise could a guy ask for, short of Mr. Byrne calling you up on the phone and saying, "Awesome review, let me buy you lunch". Perhaps that's next?

December 2, 2008 at 3:18 pmThat's what a publicist is looking for when they sent out that one ticket. A well written honest review.
Very cool Ted!

December 3, 2008 at 2:43 amWe (i.e., Popdose) were very lucky to get the ticket 'cause, you know, they could have gotten the SF Chron or a number of the smaller papers to cover the concert. I saw that KTVU posted a review, but they must have been there on the second night because I didn't see their van.
