Julie and I were watching Hillary and Obama’s speeches tonight, and she said “I didn’t think I would see the day when the two top contenders from one political party for the presidency would be an African-American man and a woman.” We are really seeing a wonderful moment in U.S. politics, and both candidates gave great speeches that were marked by messages of unity… for all Americans.

January 9, 2008 at 7:58 amOne of the things that Obama said that made me happy was something along the lines of “Every candidate running in this election is a patriot and loves their country.” It was an effecting counterpoint to those who have made the politics of division a centerpiece of their campaigns — and in the case of Bush, the centerpiece of his entire presidency.

I don’t think of unity when Hillary comes to mind.
