This has been a tough week at our home. We’re selling our house and there’s a ton of stuff to do before putting the house on the market. One of the biggies is painting. J and I were getting bids to paint our home (only 1180 square feet), and the amount these companies were charging was just insane. For example, one bid came in at $6200!Â
A friend of ours suggested that we have “painting party” with family, friends, and any willing neighbors. I’m not sure if it was really a “party,” but there was a lot of painting going on. And we did it! Because of the collective efforts of the following, we painted the entire house in one day:
La Luna
Kiryn
Shannon
Arielle
Tracy
Cherry
Eric
Vin
Sondra
Sewdaye
Maya
Maya and I spent Saturday prepping the house for painting, and we generally worked and worked from 11am to 8pm. Yesterday, after everyone left, we finally finished putting most of our stuff away and got the house back into reasonable shape by 8:30pm. It was a lot of work, but we’re very please with the results!
“THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU” to all who helped with the painting this weekend. We are so very grateful for all your hard work.Â

April 30, 2007 at 7:47 am$6,200 for 1,180 square feet! You did well to do it yourself. I am amazed it took two days. I painted the inside of my 1,250 house and it took me a week working alone at nights and weekends with a roller and a brush.

April 30, 2007 at 7:59 amBeenzzz: Yeah, we’re very lucky to have family and friends who were willing and able to lend a hand.
Lalapunci: J and I figured it would take a week if we did it ourselves. But, with all the people we had helping out, we were able to work in teams and take a room, wall, or whatever to get the job done. 🙂

April 30, 2007 at 8:27 amThat is the way to paint! What a great group of pals! Don’t you just feel better now? It’s over!

April 30, 2007 at 8:32 amPy, on the other hand the same house took two four hours to paint with an airless paint sprayer and about a day of prep work. I don’t recommend an airless with furniture in the house. On your new house, if you decide to paint, let me know and you can borrow my airless sprayer. It has a roller attachment, so you won’t need to dip the roller. I also have large canvass ground cloths.

April 30, 2007 at 8:33 amWhew! Painting the house IS the toughest thing, I’m so surprised it was so expensive!
Glad you had the help! Friends/family rock!

April 30, 2007 at 8:51 amMsM: There’s some touch up work to be done, but yeah, we’re very happy the big work is complete.
Lalapunci: If we get the place we have our eye on, we won’t have to paint ’cause it’s been freshly painted. But thanks for the offer!
Gina: The bids surprised us, too! I think it’s about zip codes for these companies. Since we live in a city that’s known for having cash (even though we don’t), I think they inflate the price.

April 30, 2007 at 9:12 amGood lord, but that’s one expensive bid on a paint job!
I love to paint (I’m a dork), so if I were there, I would certainly have joined in and helped you guys. That’s great you got so much help! Yeah, all done!

April 30, 2007 at 12:57 pmTed, when you are as good a person as you three are, it is no wonder that you have friends and family who happily pitch in to help you.
