If you’re a reader to my blog (or are friends with me on Facebook and Twitter), you know that biking (as in bicycling) is one of my passions. I’ve been pretty serious about riding for about five years, but have ridden since my daughter Maya was a very small child and I used to take her for spins on my Schwinn Varsity. When I upgraded to a Fuji Finest AL in 2002, I started riding longer stretches. Well, after 10 years on that bike, I was able to upgrade to an even better bike (Trek 3.1), and it’s made a world of difference in my ability to ride even longer. Anyway, for those of you who like pictures (and really, who doesn’t), I think you’ll enjoy this slide show of…me and biking (were you expecting pictures of cats? If so, may I direct you to YouTube.)
This was a birthday ride I did in 2010. It was my FB profile pic for years.
This was a 20 mile loop I did with my friend, Paul. I was totally out of shape, too.
Well, you can’t see my belly, but was quite large during this ride. I barely made it.
My friend Eric joined me on a ride up to Castle Rock Park (one of my go to rides).
This was a good “run to the store” bike. Alas, Julie returned it after the recession of 2008 hit both of us.
Julie’s ex-boss gave me this bike after he moved to Paris. It’s been a good mule bike.
My attempt at doing an arty farty shot of my Fuji Finest AL
My profile pic on Twitter now…
My brother Steve, and his friend/neighbor James on a ride to St. Mary’s College.
On a ride to Benicia State Park…
My brother Steve enjoying the view at Benicia State Park.
Here’s my annoying “Hey, aren’t I looking fit” shot.
My friend Phil from when I was working at the radio station. Both of us have the same sense of humor.
My bike when the chain just balled up on me…Thanks to Steve for rescuing me.
A good casual ride on the “flat” with Paul.
Sporting my 2112 jersey.
The cheap bike (mine) and the expensive one (Paul’s).
I was pretty thrilled with my new Rush jersey.
Every birthday, I try and do a challenging ride. Paul came with me part way in 2012
Paul’s cool Specialized.
A quick stop to snap a pic on Empire Mine Road in Antioch.
A post-ride pic snapped at Paul’s house.
2012 “Bike the Bridges” fundraising ride feat. Steve.
Biking up to Black Diamond mines in Antioch.
At Rock City on Mt. Diablo.
Northgate Mt. Diablo climb. It was probably 95 degrees that day.
Paul and me at Contra Loma in Antioch.
The day I wiped out and broke my shifter on my bike.
Me and my ex-boss, John after a rainy 30 miler.
When it gets too rainy, cold, or dark, it’s a spin on this contraption.
That's a LOT of great pictures of you and your best friend! I have never ridden 30 miles, unless you mean in a car. 🙂 Well, maybe once when I rode to Lodi Lake and back. But I was 16. Go you!
Gotta build up to 30 miles — that's for sure. But it's true. When you're 16, you're built different and can take the milage. Oh sure, you'll pay in sore muscles and maybe cramps, but you'll recover faster, too.
