A very good in-depth interview with Geddy and Alex from Rush talking about the new album, their 30+ year career, and the fact that they have absolutely no interest in being a “greatest hits” old fart band.
Some folks (mostly my mom) 🙂 wants to know why I like this band so much. I was introduced to them during a time of transition (we had moved and I started a new high school…had no friends… blah, blah, blah). So when you have a lot of time to kill by yourself, often music comes into the picture — especially when one is a teenager.
Rush’s Moving Pictures came out during that transition time, and there was something about the album that really resonated with me, but not until I saw them live at the Oakland Coliseum in 1981. I really didn’t know many of their songs (except “The Spirit of Radio” and “Free Will”), but after that concert, I was completely hooked on their music and went back to discover their back catalogue.
Nowadays, I think the band’s dedication to their playing, their unwillingness to compromise on their songs, and their sheer ability to rock in their late ’50s is pretty inspiring. Plus, their music makes for good motivation tunes when exercising!
