A very smart, funny, and accomplished writer has left the fold and has become one with the universe. Molly Ivins was a sharp political writer whose prose didn’t quite match her rather gentle demeanor in person.
She died of breast cancer yesterday.
She was a very strong critic of the Bush administration and right wing politics in general. But I think Ivins said it best when she told People magazine:
“There are two kinds of humor. [One is the kind] “that makes us chuckle about our foibles and our shared humanity. The other kind holds people up to public contempt and ridicule. That’s what I do.â€
Sometimes she was very funny, but since Bush came into office, she was much more serious in her critique of what was happening in our country — and who could blame her! I looked on You Tube to see if I could find clips of her, and I found this one from a program entitled “W’s War” (Her snippet is at 1:44).

February 1, 2007 at 11:18 amWhat a sad day for journalism, that she is gone. She not only called Bush to the carpet, she called the Dems as well.
Great clip, though depressing.
