Deep Track — New Order “All Day Long”

I became a fan of New Order as they were becoming the darlings of the alternative/new wave kids in the mid-80s. It wasn't until I met J that I really started to like them, bought their back catalogue, and got to know Joy Division as well.

Today's "Deep Track" selection comes off New Order's "Brotherhood" album in 1986. The album contains their perennial hit, "Bizarre Love Triangle," and it's certainly one of my favorites. However, the album also contained "All Day Long," a mid-tempo tune that seems to capture the somewhat leaden mood of a rainy Sunday in the Bay Area (i.e., today!)

The tune also takes me back to the mid 80s when I was wearing a lot of black clothes and trying to cultivate an artsy and sullen demeanor. I still wear a lot of black ('cause apparently I'm a Gen X stereotype), but the sullen and artsy demeanor has gone away like my hair! 🙂

Anyway, enjoy this tasteful conflation of 80s synth and Barnard Sumner/Peter Hook's more organic guitar and bass work!
