Things like text messaging seem like a waste of time. I see where a text message could be useful (i.e., I haven’t paid my T-Mobile bill or something like that, and they send you a text saying so), but as a way to communicate with people in general, I would rather pick up the phone.
But when I searched for a good text messaging picture, I found a site that wrote about the advantages of texting. Here ’tis:

Text messaging is a quick and easy way to stay in touch with your friends and family when it’s difficult to talk. If you’re in a noisy area or don’t want to be heard, text messaging is the answer.
Okay, if you’re in a meeting and you get a text, you may not want to be heard talking on the phone, but you’re certainly going to draw attention to yourself by tapping on the keypad on your phone if you decided to reply. If you’re in a club where the music is loud and your friend wants to know what’s up? (or WU?) I suppose you could text back and say: “TBH 404” (“To be honest, I don’t know”). But you could also take a couple of minutes, find a quiet place and call him/her back.
But no…Now you have to master all these shorthand codes, and I just can’t be bothered…IYKWIM. 😉

I didn’t know what IYKWIM meant, and I’ve never text messaged anyone, so I guess I’m an old fogie. 😉

Acutally C-Lo, it was something someone said at the remote broadcast I was at yesterday. They were talking about texting and I was thinking “Man, why don’t you just pick up the phone and call each other!” 🙂
I’m a techno grouch (cell phone still the same one I bought in 1997) and tend to shy away from the new stuff such as text messaging and camera phones. Yeah, I would rather pick up the phone and call them.
Sometimes I want to say something but I don’t necesssary want to talk to that person. My SIS and I text all the time. It’s fun and I don’t have to have the phone to my ear. My ears are very sensitive. 😉
Well, that’s one good thing about texting. If you have sensitive ears, well then tap tap away. It’s just that it seems to take so long to say so little. I know there are templates you can set up and if you master the shorthand code it could be a bit like pass notes in class, but…Oh I’m just old! 🙂
Am I aging rapidly at 30? Never used the text messaging feature on my phone and don’t really care to. The time it takes to text someone can be well spent telling them on the phone. As for those acronyms, I have to wonder what will happen to the rules of grammar in the next few years. Have you noticed how obsessed society has become over cell phones? Look around you the next time you’re driving, everyone is on their cell! If they aren’t talking, they’re texting. Which reminds me, I must go dig out mine from the bottom of my handbag and charge it at least once for the month. Cell phones fdo make a good distraction for easy diaper changes though. (Mom tip)

Oh yes, my 17 year old cousin does nothing but sit and text all day. When she was out shopping with us, I wondered why she was so quiet, and then I noticed that it was because she was texting her boyfriend instead of enaging with us! It made me kind of mad, actually.

I send Text messages all the time (I’m 28), and I send them for the same reason I send Emails– I’ve got about 3 lines worth of information to convey, and don’t want to use my minutes doing so…
Or, of course, I can’t really talk. but that’s been well covered…
