TV is such an important part of our culture, that I wonder was there meaning in life before its existence? 😉
Think about our daily conversations with our friends, co-workers and family members and chances are there will be a TV reference in there. Every year we eagerly wait for the new season of a favorite TV show, and we’re also enticed to watch new shows so we can bond with them. After a short period of time, it’s pretty clear that certain shows become a fetish for us; they are part of our lives, they get woven into our thoughts, our conversations, even our dreams. In short, the shows you watch become a reflection of your personality. By telling people you like X, you’re telling them about who you are (well, part of who you are).
So, who am I? What do I watch? I’m not going to make an exhaustive list, but there are shows that I really must watch on a weekly basis. This year (much like last year), my favorites are as follows:
Battlestar Galactica (aka BSG)
Lost
Rescue Me
There are others, but that’s pretty much my top 3. So, what does that say about me? I’m not entirely sure. I suppose I’m a bit of a geek since I like BSG, but for those who haven’t watched the show, you’re really missing some great TV that not sci-fi geeky at all.
Lost appeals to my love of shows that explore the paranormal and the paranoid.
Rescue Me is wonderfully gritty TV that explores the unvarnished human condition in an age where we love to idealize people who put their lives on the line to save others (i.e., firefighters). However, we often overlook how flawed these firefighters are in their day to day lives. It’s really brilliant TV!

And, La Luna? If you’re watching mindless TV, you’re not watching BSG or Veronica Mars…
La Luna: Rescue Me has wrapped up their 3rd season, but USA plays it over and over, so you’ll be able to catch up.
Andrew: I still don’t know what Veronica Mars is about. And Hereos? I’m in the dark on that one, too.

I know there are pleny of others that I have been addicted to…those are the biggies, I guess. Then there are the shows you’re not addicted to, but you’ll watch if you’re sitting there at the right time…like Monday, I watched “Wife Swap”, and then “Frontline”. What can that possibly mean?

Like you, I’m hooked on Lost and Rescue Me. Number Three on my list might have to be Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip, probably the only new show that’s really roped me in this season.
This past Sunday I acutally made the effort to sit down and watch tv with Lew. It was torture. I used to love, love tv, but now I don’t.
Jefito: Studio 60 hasn’t hit my top TV shows…yet. I’ve been buying episodes on iTunes, and while I do like the show, I haven’t quite warmed up to it. I’ll get there.
Ml: Sorry about your TV torture. I hear that torture is legal now, so I’m afraid you can’t contact a lawyer. 😉

Since I only have rabbit ears and not cable I am limited to network TV. I like watching The New Yankee Workshop. Norm makes some good things and the man has every tool in the universe. Re-runs of Green Acres are fun to watch on I TV. I don’t have much time to sit down in front of the tv. I guess I am just an old fuddy duddy.

I’ve heard a lot about Nip/Tuck, but the two times I tuned in, it was like soft-core porn. I thought it was maybe free Showtime or something.
Never heard of Bones MG. But Green Acres and The New Yankee Workshop? Um, can you tell Lalapunci is an engineer?

…wow, I think that’s actually it. There are other shows I watch and look forward to: ER, My Name Is Earl, Boston Legal, Grey’s Anatomy…and I’ll eagerly watch them, but I’m not running home to see them as soon as they’re on, if that makes any sense.
I used to get extremely excited about Everwood and Six Feet Under, but they’re gone now. 🙁
I like Mr. Hainey and Eb. I like to watch re-runs of Perry Mason too. I used to like watching CSI, but the story line got too weird and showing every detail about how the victim died. Too much for me. I like old re-runs. Hey, what can I say about being and engineer?
I am like ML I don’t watch too much TV. Regis and Kelly is good enough in the mornings when I am getting dressed for class.
Hm. Veronica Mars is about a girl who solves typical high-school mysteries– and oh yeah, tries to figure out who killed her best friend. It’s also an exploration of the American class structure. You can find the first season on DVD for as little as US$20, though if the show doesn’t start getting more viewers, it will be canned in a couple weeks…
Heroes is pure superhero set in modern times. It’s _very_ character driven, and is actualy a bit slow. Basicaly, it explores how people respond to being given certain powers. It’s not bad– but I’m waiting for it to thrill me…
PK… you don’t know HEROs? Well of course you don’t, its on at 9pm on Mondays. You must tape it sometime. I’m sure you can come in after 3 episodes, but you might want to read up on what has happened so far. LOVE IT!
