The Winners

Julie and I were watching Hillary and Obama’s speeches tonight, and she said “I didn’t think I would see the day when the two top contenders from one political party for the presidency would be an African-American man and a woman.”  We are really seeing a wonderful moment in U.S. politics, and both candidates gave great speeches that were marked by messages of unity… for all Americans.

  1. One of the things that Obama said that made me happy was something along the lines of “Every candidate running in this election is a patriot and loves their country.” It was an effecting counterpoint to those who have made the politics of division a centerpiece of their campaigns — and in the case of Bush, the centerpiece of his entire presidency.

  2. I think Obama is the man for the job when it comes to unity in this country as well as our foreign affairs.
I don’t think of unity when Hillary comes to mind.
