The Wheel of Life…

It’s been a weekend of ups and downs.  First off:  the update on Ron, my friend from high school.  It looks like the damage to his brain was so severe that he won’t be among the living much longer.  As you can guess, he was not in the best of health.  I found out that he suffered from sleep apnea, he also had bronchitis, was quite overweight, and never really bothered with the follow-up visits to the doctor — even though they kept calling to schedule with him.

So…yeah.  He will probably depart this earthly realm today or tomorrow after the hospital completes all the legal things they need to do before they take him off life support.

Wow.

And then?  We had our open house on Sunday and from what our agent said, there were about 3 to 4 serious buyers.  We don’t have any offers on the table (it’s too early at this point), but all indications point to a couple coming down the pike.  We’re pretty happy, but also a bit sad.  We really like our neighbors, and it’s been pretty satisfying to serve on the HOA board, but it’s time to move on since we’ve basically run out of space.

Have any of your sold your home before?  Did you have to de-clutter and de-personalize everything before putting your home on the market? If so, wasn’t it weird how quickly your home was no longer yours once the “For Sale” sign went up?

As you can probably tell, I’m feeling a bit out of sorts…

  1. I’m so sorry about your friend. I always feel so numb when someone I know passes on. I hope he goes on to a better place.

As for your house, you’ve made so many good memories in that place. You’ll be taking that with you. 🙂

  2. Awww, I’m sorry you are discombobulated. I haven’t sold before, so I can only imagine the sadness of leaving your home. I hope things work quickly for you guys!

  3. Yep, we sold our condo about 7 years ago to move to this house that we want to move out of now. Yeh, we de-cluttered, painted, and put in new floors in the kitchen and bathrooms. It was quite the undertaking. It does make it seem foreign once you’ve put it up for sale. It’s like its an object rather than your home. Glad to hear that you have so many perspective buyers though! Have you been looking for homes too?

  4. Thanks Gina!

Beenzzz: We did look at a few places, and we have our eye on a Townhome, but they want too much for it. We’re going to low-ball them and see if we can meet somewhere in the middle during the back and forth dance of the offer/counter offer.

  5. It doesn’t seem like our home anymore, which does make me sad. I really want to move sometimes, but yesterday, for some reason, I was thinking….Why did I want this???

  6. When selling my rental, I had nothing in it. I had to put furniture in it so people could get and idea of how to lay out their stuff. It’s a good idea to declutter. Rent a storage space and make it look like a model home. It’s a pain but it will help, especially in this buyers market.

  7. Hey Py, I had major sellers remorse when I sold my condo. It was my home and my heart for a long time and it was hard to let that go.

I hope you get some solid offers soon and get what you want 🙂

  8. OH Py!
I’m so sorry to hear about your friend. So many things happening in your life all at once.

I stopped by your Open House on Sunday and it showed very nicely. I hope your realtor’s chocolate chip cookies helped out! They were mighty tastey!
