The Bad Boss/The Bully At Work

We’ve all had them, right? It’s one of those things where you wonder why people take it — working for the bad boss, that is. Then, all you have to do is think about your livelihood, rent, mortgage, bills, food, and all the rest, and you realize why people just suck it up and do the job.

I was reading about bosses from hell in last Sunday’s San Francisco Chronicle (You can read it HERE), and decided to do a show on it for my public affairs program. Gary Namie — who runs The Workplace Bullying & Trauma Institute — was my guest and had some really great suggestions for fighting back against the bully at work and the bad boss.

Oh, and I should say that I finally got off my butt and started posting some of the audio programs I’ve produced as podcasts available through iTunes. Right now there are only two of them (one I did last year with C-Lo when we interviewed James “J.Y.” Young of Styx). If you don’t do the podcasting thing you, can just click the link below to listen to the program. However, if you do do the podcasting thing, just go to HERE and subscribe.

P.S. Some sad news in the bloggy world…It looks like Jefito’s site may a fond memory very soon. The host he uses deleted all the mp3 files off their server after they said his site was getting too many hits. Here’s what he had to say about it:

Well, it looks like I must have uploaded something popular today, because — according to my mp3 host — I was getting “too many hits” and, well, you can guess the rest. It looks like they went in and wiped everything off their servers, which is why everyone’s getting those lovely File Not Found errors.

Considering that this just happened at the last host last month, I’m pretty sure we’ve reached the end of the road that Boyz II Men were always crying about.

I’m really not sure where this site goes from here…but in the interim, I want to thank those of you who have visited, enjoyed, donated, and commented; I’ve really made some wonderful friends doing this, and it’s been a blast. Until next time…

  1. I will give it a listen. A good book I read that is loosely about this subject is “First, Break All the Rules” by Marcus Buckingham and Curt Coffman. When I look for a job I look at the manager. In the interview, I actually size up the manager to see if I click with him or her. I have found that almost all my job changes are due to management.
