Hey bloggy friends. A while back I was saying that I might revamp this blog to align it with some more egghead interests I have. And if you stuck around, then cool. If not, then thanks for reading. Instead what did is start a another blog with some grad school buddies of mine. You can read HERE, but now I’m at a crossroads of sorts. What do I do with the Py Korry space? I was talking to Julie and I said: “Maybe I ought to just make this my personal blog. Just talk about … stuff. Things that are going on in my life, pictures of family, friends, the dog, and the like.”
But who would be interested in something like that? My life isn’t all that interesting, and, truth be told, I don’t like writing about my personal life on a blog — unless, you know, I made this space a “super exclusive blog” where you would need a password to read it. WordPress has a option where I could set that up, but it would mean my audience would be limited to a select few (i.e., you would have to be invited in), and I’m not sure if that kind of velvet rope is something people even want to bother with.
But here’s the thing: I’m teaching a class in the Spring and it would kind of weird (weird to me, that is) if my students stumbled on a blog where my personal life is on display … know what I mean? So, let’s play with the poll-o-meter and see what you think, shall we?

That’s a silly question.
The blog is for you man. If you don’t feel cool about the personal blog, then it’s not for you. If you’re like, I kinda dig writing about my stuff and letting people read about my goings on and leaving comments, then go for it. Your people will follow if you let them (as long as my RSS feed reader can deal with the password)

I like it when you are personal, when you relay your feelings about topics of interest or stuff about Jeni. You don’t do it often, and I wish you would. SO YES I WOULD LIKE A PY PERSONAL BLOG
I’d read your blog however you had it set up, and regardless of what you’re blogging about because I really like keeping in touch with people I know in person, but don’t get to see often, through their blogs.
As someone who’s taught classes, I empathize with your question about students. I think the future of online communication will lead to students having more personal information about teachers. I think this could be a healthy turn of events. Though it might be a rocky road to get there.

Yeah, with blogging/Facebook/LinkedIn and all the other social networking sites out there, it’s really easy to find out about people. While I don’t mind sharing personal info with students (i.e., “My family and I saw this movie, went to this place, blah, blah, blah), I guess with blogging there’s a chance you might write something that could come back to haunt you in some manner. Call me paranoid, but, well, I guess I’m a little paranoid. 🙂

I did the same thing. One for personal stuff (well, not too personal) and one for techie stuff. The personal one is for my family and friends and for me to just vent and be creative. The techie one is meant for anyone and forces me to stay current and investigate things I’d otherwise be to lazy to read up on. I like having the 2.

Doug: I used to read your Foo Kabloo blog, but some of the stuff you were talking about was just way over my head. That’s not to say that you didn’t write well, it’s just that I was too tech illiterate to follow what you were saying.
ML: Yeah, it’s 9 to 1 in favor of “going private.” I’m looking at a couple of options on my host’s site and a WordPress plugin, so it won’t happen right away. After all, I don’t start teaching until January 17th. 🙂
Of course I’ll still read and I’m reading the other one, too 🙂 I’m with you on the whole student/professor issue. I don’t have much to hide but I’d rather keep some details of my personal life unknown to my professors.
