Mix Six: “Right Now”

Listen to Mix Six: “Right Now” HERE

The title of this mix is a bit deceiving since some of these songs aren’t all current in terms of the whole “Right Now” theme. When I was leaving the office yesterday, I asked a few co-workers what they are listening to these days (i.e., “right now”) and predictably got varied answers.  Not all of these songs were suggested by them, but enough that made for a challenging mix.
Also, just to spice things up a bit, I’ve thrown in a couple of surprises. Just think back to the 90s when track list on the CD had maybe 12 song listed — but there weren’t 12 songs on the CD. Enjoy!

“Valerie” The Zutons These kids toured with The Killers, and this song has a very familiar feel to it. It sounds like a cover song, but I’m almost certain this one was penned by The Zutons.
“Tennessee” the Mimsies I’ve never heard of this band until Tricia at work said she was grooving on an “old song” by the Mimsies. She said I wouldn’t find it, but…I…have…my…ways. 🙂 Sadly, this group broke up and the members are doing the solo thing.
“Black Republican” Nas I’m not a big rap fan, but Jefito had song by Nas on his weekly Mix Tape and it got me jazzed enough to get the CD.
“Lost Without U” Robin Thicke Melissa at work loves her soulful tunes. I didn’t realize that Robin is Alan Thicke’s son!
“This Ain`t A Scene, It`s An Arms Race” Fall Out Boy In many ways, the 80s never left us…
“Phantom Limb” The Shins In many ways, the 60s never left us…

  1. First of all, thanks for moving the Mix Six back to Fridays! 🙂

I haven’t heard of any of these bands (blushing), so this will get me into some new stuff.

  2. Holy crap, I love this Shins song. What’s happening to me? It’s like the sky turned green all of a sudden or something.

Also, do my ears deceive me, or is this actually more like a Mix Eight or Nine?

  3. I am so loving Fall Out Boy right now. But of course you probably already knew that because I’m soooo that part of the demo.

  4. Great mix Teddy! Thank you for adding Robin Thicke. I’m looking forward to next week’s “possible” mix six.

  5. “Black Republican” is my favorite song from that Nas CD… but I think that’s more because of Jay-Z. Still, I like that album a lot more than I thought I would.

    and yay for the Shins.

  6. I was dreading this a bit, to be honest, but I pretty much liked them all! Fall Out Boy, I expected to like more, but it was just ok. However, floor me with the Thicke guy, I really liked that one.

And ever snce I heard them on the Garden State soundtrack, I have liked the Shins. See, I’m not completely stuck in the 80’s!

Sad commentary on my life that I am only today getting to listen to this! Thanks, Py!
