Michael M’s Mix Six

Sometime a week just flies by, and sometimes it just crawls. This week just flew for me. I mean Monday I was, well, having a “case of the Mondays” and then it was a blur to Friday. I’m not complaining, I’m just saying…

Okay, this week’s mix comes from the mind of Michael M. who also works in the radio industry. However, Michael doesn’t want to be known by his real name, so I’ll just use a semi alias. Michael works for a station in San Jose, CA and I recently met him at a party where there was a lot of wine and 45s playing on a turntable (Note: if you don’t know what a 45 is, just look at the picture on the right). I mentioned that I did a weekly Mix Six and he should send me one. So, he finally got off his duff (after much prodding from my brother) and emailed his favs.

So, without further blah blah, here’s Michael M’s Mix Six (comments are mine, by the way).
“Where The Streets Have No Name” U2 It’s an anthem! It’s a sermon! It’s bloody brilliant! This is probably one of my favorite U2 songs as well, so, from my perspective, this mix is starting out just right.
“Prayer for the Dying” Seal If there was one song that reminds of when I got back into radio (after 6 years of being away), it’s this song.
“West End Girls” Pet Shop Boys Another “My life in radio” song. I was working overnights at KKIS in Concord, CA when this song broke onto the charts.
“What Have I Done To Deserve This” Pet Shop Boys When you’re in a Pet Shop Boys groove, you really can’t stop at one song, so we get the proverbial “double shot!”
“Driftwood” Travis I can’t help it, but when I saw the title of this song, I half expected to hear a Moody Blues cover. However, this tune is starting to grow on me after listening to it about 6-7 times.
“In My Life” The Beatles Ah…What else needs to be said. A great closer to what can be described as an emotional set.

Thanks Michael M! Hope all of you enjoyed this one.

  1. I’m looking forward to listening to this mix. Any set that starts with U2 and ends with the Beatles has got to be great! Thanks Michael, thanks Py!

  2. Wow…that’s good stuff! Nice work Michael. I’m also horrified to learn that some people might not know what a 45 is!!

  3. ahh the pet shop boys! What have I? What have I? What have I done to deserve this?? hahaha sadly, I have to listen to the song in my head. Stupid computer.

  4. I am weirdly obsessed with “What Have I Done to Deserve This.” something about the chord progression and the supremely mopey “raps” just KILL me.

  5. C-Lo: It is shocking that there are people out there who have no idea that there were other spinning disks that played music once upon a time.

Dot: Catchy little hook, eh? Hope you get to hear this soon.

  6. Excellent! Love the PSB’s, Seal, and the Beatles. And U2. U2 is U2, doesn’t get much better than that.

I am old enough to remember 45’s, boo hoo.
