And That’s That

I know I’ve moaned and groaned about our real estate woes a few times in the last, oh, seven months, but it’s over.  We’re off the market and yesterday we went out to find “stuff” to reconfigure our home.  Julie bought a new desk for our bedroom/office,  and I’m going with an armoire/desk thingy that looks like this:

J’s going with a very nice desk and file cabinet that looks like this:

And this:

And then what to do with the boxed up books? We gave away our old bookshelf, so we have to get a new one.

IKEA had this that looks pretty good, so we’ll probably get one of these:

It feels good to be done with real estate.  We had a potential buyer who was all fired up to make an offer, but then felt rushed by the fact that we were taking our house off the market and wanted a good month to “think about it.”   I hate to say “I had a feeling,” but I had a feeling they weren’t going to act.  First off, they were first time homebuyers who  had just moved up here from LA for work.  Only one had work and the other was “looking.”  Second, they hadn’t even talked to anyone about a loan.  And third, given how tough it is to get a loan if you’re a first time buyer, it all seemed kind of iffy.  Well, I guess the jitters got the better of them, and they won’t even take calls or answer emails from our agent.  Whatever.  It’s their loss.

So, it seems we’re staying put for the next couple of years. Not a bad thing given where we’re living, but it means we’re not going to be able to stretch out by buying more square footage.

  1. The downside is our moving dreams squelched. The upside is, think of all the money we’ll save, and, we don’t have to move! I hate moving.

  2. I bet it’s a relief not to have to stress about open houses, stupid offers that insult your intelligence and all the stuff that goes along with selling.

    Enjoy your new stuff!

  3. It is a relief, but kind of sad, too. You know, you put all that work and effort in trying to “upgrade,” and it just doesn’t happen.

  4. On the upside, you can now resume some normalcy and not have to worry about staging or prospective buyers. I have an armoire very smilar to the one you chose and I LOVE it. Beware though, they get cluttered easily!

Enjoy your new furniture and your upgrades. As cliche as this may sound, everything happens for a reason.

  5. I’m sorry this whole thing didn’t work out the way you guys wanted it to.

But think of it this way, you have such a purty new kitchen!

  6. I was worried that you would be very sad. I am proud that you have maintained a good outlook on a situation that was difficult for you both. I am happy that you will still me a hop, skip and jump away to bug you.

  7. I’m sorry that this didn’t work out better, but glad that you have decided to end it and get on with your lives. Really sorry about the bookcases — having something built for the house and then having to rip it out is no fun at all.
